Pinene
Pinene is a simple terpene that has an aroma similar to needles from pine trees. Cannabis with a terpene profile containing pinene has a strong pine scent similar to a woodland forest. Although it has incredible therapeutic benefits, pinene is also commonly found in cleaning products and solutions for sterilizing surfaces. Pinene can be found naturally in vegetation such as dill, parsley, rosemary, pine, spruce, and juniper.
The key benefit of this terpene is cognitive improvement. Alpha pinene synergistically interacts with cannabinoids quicker than other terpenes. When used together with THC, pinene supports brain health by improving memory, enhancing mood, increasing blood flow to the brain, stimulating cognitive function, reversing amnesia, and fighting the effects of conditions such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. When used together with CBD, pinene has anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation) and antibiotic (inhibits the growth of microorganisms) properties. It is bronchodilatory (opens up the respiratory airway, inhibits lung viruses, fights bronchitis, and reduces asthmatic triggers), analgesic (relieves pain), anxiolytic (relieves anxiety), antimicrobial (treats methicillin-resistant MRSA) and antifungal (kills the fungus that causes yeast infections). Pinene is significantly beneficial to the respiratory and cognitive systems when used together with CBD and THC.
Common strains containing pinene: Blue Dream, OG Kush, Strawberry Cough
